Energy news from Turkey... Growth continues on renewable energy.
Taner Ercömert, General Manager of hydroelectric energy group"> limak holding hydroelectric energy group made important statements to Enerji Ekonomisi regarding the development in the field of renewable energy in the world and in our country as follows;
As stated in the renewable energy capacity statistics report published by the International Renewable Energy Agency in April 2021, despite the economic stagnation and slowdown caused by the covid virus epidemic in the world in 2020, the increase in renewable energy-based electricity generation capacity was more than 1.5 times the capacity increase in 2019.
While the installed capacity of renewable energy generation plants increased to 2 920 GW worldwide, it reached 50.8 GW in Turkey as of the end of April 2021.
Hydroelectric energy ranks first with 1 332 GW in renewable capacity in the world, followed by wind power with 733 GW and solar power with 714 GW. Hydroelectric energy has the largest share in renewable power in Turkey too with 31.49 GW, followed by wind power with 9.47 GW and solar power with 6.98 GW. Ercömert ‘’ Electricity generation capacity increase in renewable energy continues in the world and in our country.’’ Growth on renewables has continued in 2020 as well, and the production capacity of renewable energy has increased by 261 GW worldwide and 5 GW in our country last year.
Around the world, 82 % of the capacity increase in 2020 came from renewables, and thus the share of renewable resources in the world installed electricity generation capacity increased to 36.6 % in 2020.
In our country, the increase in electricity generation capacity last year continued mainly on renewable energy and in 2020, 95 % of the increase in electricity production capacity was from renewable energy sources. In Turkey, the share of renewables in the country’s installed electricity generation capacity has exceeded 50 % in 2020 and has exceeded 52 % as of April 2021.
Taner Ercömert also stated that he is pleased with the continuing development of renewable resources of great importance for the economy and energy supply security in our country where large amounts of money are paid for energy imports.
