BOTAS Strategic Cooperation with EGAS
BOTAŞ's FSRU (floating storage and gasification unit), which plays a leading role in ensuring the security of our country's natural gas supply, will serve its very first seasonal duty abroad. Hence, the FSRU, which will contribute to the supply security of both our country and Egypt, will be the first of its kind in the world to operate in two different countries during the summer months when Turkish national demand is low.
At the ceremony held in Ankara under the auspices of Alparslan BAYRAKTAR, Turkish Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, and Karim BADAWI, Egyptian Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, Abdulvahit FİDAN, Chairman and Managing Director of BOTAŞ, and Yassin MOHAMED, Chairman and CEO of Egyptian Natural Gas Holding Company (EGAS) signed the contract.With the “FSRU Time Charter Contract” signed between BOTAŞ and Egypt's publicly owned energy company EGAS, the FSRU vessel more be used more flexibly and efficiently and an economic gain will be achieved.Within the framework of the contract between the two publicly owned companies, the FSRU vessel will provide LNG storage and re-gasification services in Egypt during the summer of 2025, when natural gas demand is expected to be high, and will contribute to Egypt's natural gas supply security.Another First from BOTAŞWith this contract, which can be extended contingent on the agreement of the parties, for the first time in the world, an FSRU vessel will undertake operational duties in two different countries for a period of years to meet the seasonally fluctuating demand.Opening a new page in Türkiye-Egypt energy relations, this contract is the latest example of Türkiye's recent energy diplomacy based on regional cooperation with a “win-win” understanding (Date: 13/5/2025, BOTAŞ). energy news from türkiye - enerji ekonomisi
