Remarkable Discoveries in the Black Sea Three Years in a Row!

Türkiye Petrolleri AO

The third major gas discovery in the Black Sea was carried out by the Turkish Petroleum Corporation (TPAO) in the Çaycuma-1 well drilled in the northwest of the Sakarya Field. In the Black Sea, the Çaycuma-1 well, drilling of which was started on 29th of October 2022, is successfully completed. This success has come right after the discoveries made in the Sakarya Field in 2020 and in the Amasra Field in 2021. Initial studies revealed 58 BCM reserves in Çaycuma Field. Within the scope of the Phase-1 field development, gas production systems on the seabed, a gas processing plant in Filyos Industrial Zone and the construction of pipelines to connect all these units have been completed to a large extent. Following the commissioning activities to be carried out before production, the first production will take place in first quarter of 2023. In the first phase of the Sakarya Gas Field Development Project, 10 million cubic meters of gas per day will be delivered to the onshore gas processing facility. In the coming years with the development of the further phases, it is planned to increase the project capacity to 40 million cubic meters per day.

Regarding the activities in the field of deep-sea exploration, drilling and production operations within the scope of Sakarya Gas Field Development Project, Mr. Melih Han Bilgin, Chairman and General Manager of Turkish Petroleum said; "A short time before the end of 2022, the third exploration success was achieved in the ultra-deep sea areas of the Black Sea for three consecutive years with the Çaycuma-1 well. With the development planning to be made in the region, necessary studies will be held to quickly bring this additional natural resource to our country." In addition to exploration activities, TPAO has carried out third-party reserves estimation studies with DeMac which approved an estimated total volume of -1 TCM gas-in-place in Sakarya and Amasra Fields.

TPAO continues its successful deep-sea exploration and development activities, which have come to the fore in recent years, with its deep-sea drilling activities carried out with national and domestic resources.
