Press Release on the Appointment of New Governor

With a decree published in Official Gazette No.31297 dated 7 November 2020, Mr. Naci Ağbal has been appointed as Governor of the Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey.

At the takeover ceremony, Governor Ağbal thanked Murat Uysal and Mr. Uysal wished Governor Ağbal all the best and every success in his new post.

Naci Ağbal was born on 1 January 1968 in Bayburt. He graduated from İstanbul University, Department of Public Administration of the Faculty of Political Sciences, and completed the Business Administration Program (MBA) at the University of Exeter, UK.

Ağbal worked at the Ministry of Finance as an inspector, as the Vice-Chairman of the Inspection Board, Head of Department of the General Directorate of Revenues and Advisor to the Minister. Ağbal served as the General Director of Budget and Fiscal Control between 2006 and 2009 and Undersecretary of the Ministry of Finance from 2009 to 2015.

Ağbal served as a Member of the Board of Directors of TÜPRAŞ, PETKİM Inc., Turkish Airlines Inc., Member of Council of Higher Education, Member of the Board of Trustees at International Ahmed Yesevi University, Member of the Vakıf Participation Bank Inc. Board of Directors and Member of Turkish-Japanese Science and Technology University Council. 

He became a Member of Parliament from Justice and Development (AK) Party from Bayburt in the General Parliamentary Election of 7 June 2015. He was reelected as a Member of Parliament from Bayburt in the General Parliamentary Election of 1 November 2015. He was Vice President for Economic Affairs as a Member of AK Party Central Decision and Executive Board (MKYK) and Central Executive Board (MYK). Ağbal served as the Minister of Finance during the 64th and 65th Governments of the Republic of Turkey, and was appointed as the President of the Republic of Turkey Presidency of Strategy and Budget on 25 July 2018.

Ağbal was appointed as the Governor of the Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey with the decision published in the Official Gazette No. 31297 of 7 November 2020.

Ağbal has a good command of English, and is married with two children.
