Hydropower is the main contributor to the renewable electricity generation, nationally and globally.
Out of the total electricity generation in Europe in 2020, hydropower was the largest component contributing 43 % of renewable power generation, followed by wind 36 %, solar 11 %, biomass & waste 9 % .

Out of the total electricity generation in Turkey in 2020, hydropower was again the largest component contributing 60 % of renewable power generation, followed by wind 19.2 %, solar 9 %, geothermal 7.2 %, biomass & waste 4.2 % .

In the World, Hydropower is the most widely-used renewable power source with the global hydroelectric installed capacity exceeding 1 300 GW, accounting for more than 17 % of the world's total installed power generation capacity and more than 50 % of the global renewable power generation capacity.

 

In Turkey, Hydropower is again the most widely-used renewable power source with an installed capacity exceeding 31 GW, accounting for more than 32 % of the country's total installed power generation capacity and more than 60 % of the renewable power.
